Throughout her prolific artistic career, Jeannette Pekari produced works of art using a wide range of techniques such as machine embroidery, ink, pastel, gouache, acrylic, oil, pencil, and serigraphies. Her art continues to captivate her audience with vibrant colours and a diversity of subject matters.
Jeannette Pekari breathed art all her life. When she was three years old, her mother noticed that she was more interested in playing with art materials than toys, expressing herself and communicating more with drawing than with speech. Being diagnosed as “aphasic”, she had to take speech therapy and go to a special school. She studied at Davison School in Atlanta (Georgia, USA) from 1965 to 1973. It was there that she won the first prize for her artwork, drawing a Christmas card in 1965.
After Davison School, she stayed with her parents in Montreal where she attended the Mackay Center School for the Deaf from 1973 to 1975. She then went to Switzerland for three years. She spent a year at Château Beau Cèdre in Montreux, and from there she went to Lausanne, Chateau Brillantmont for two years.
In 1978 and 1979, she took the Foundation course of Fine Art at Byam Shaw School of Art, an independent art school in London, England. Then she spent three years at Goldsmiths’ College in London (1979 - 82) where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in textiles and Fine Arts.
She then stayed in Cannes, France, for four years where, surrounded and captivated by the beauty of the Côte d’Azur, she started to paint and prepare for exhibitions.
